Donation Organizer

Job Description:                            Organize donations

Job Duties:            Transport donations from the Administrative Office to the shelter and organize donations in the shelter storage shed.

Qualifications:            Volunteer should have reliable transportation and flexible schedule.

Morning Shelter Volunteer

Department:            Shelter

Max. Volunteers needed:            10

Job Description:            Assist Crisis Counselor

Job Duties:            Duties may vary as needs arise and/or change.  Assemble resource and domestic violence information folders; assemble intake folders for new clients; shop for groceries and household supplies; pick up items from area department stores; answer the phones; perform clerical duties such as typing, filing, and faxing; transport donations from the office to shelter storage building; organize the storage building; prepare in-coming clients’ rooms; decorate shelter for holidays; provide child care when mothers are in counseling; make phone calls for clients regarding housing, employment, etc.; keep the kitchen pantry stocked; prepare “entry and exit boxes” with toiletry items and small gifts; drive clients to appointments.

Qualifications:            These volunteers should be friendly, caring, dependable people who can work one 3-hour shift each week.  It is helpful if volunteers can be flexible and occasionally adjust their shift hours to meet the needs of the clients or shelter. It is also helpful if the volunteer can occasionally lift somewhat heavy donations.

Other:            Volunteers must interact well with people and feel comfortable working with women and children who are victims of domestic violence.

Afternoon Shelter Volunteer

Department:            Shelter

Max. Volunteers needed:            5

Job Description:            Assist Crisis Counselors and Shelter Manager

Job Duties:            Answer crisis line, transport donations from office to shelter, bring in items from shed, reorganize linen closet, prepare incoming clients rooms, and prepare intake folders.

Qualifications:             Volunteers should be friendly, flexible, and like to do a variety of jobs to support the shelter clients.

                                                            Volunteers must interact well with people and feel comfortable working with women and children who are victims of domestic violence.

Other:            Duties may vary as needs arise and/or change.

Volunteers are needed to work from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (Monday - Friday) once a week

Evening Shelter Volunteer

Department:            Shelter

Max. Volunteers needed:            4

Job Description:            Assist Crisis Counselors and Shelter Manager

Job Duties:            Answer crisis line during group, bring in quilts for children from the shed, restock/reorganize linen closet and pantry, transport clients from our pick up point, prepare kitchen table for clients’ birthday parties, prepare exit boxes of food and toiletries for exiting clients, retrieve items for clients from shed.

Qualifications:            Volunteers should like to do a variety of tasks to help and support clients and staff at the shelter.

                                                            Volunteers must interact well with people and feel comfortable working with women and children who are victims of domestic violence.

Other:            Duties may change as the need arises.

            Volunteers are needed to work from 6:15 p.m. to 9 p.m. (Monday - Thursday) once a week

Children’s Volunteer

Department:            Children’s Program

Max. Volunteers needed:            11

Job Description:            Provide child care & group activities for children ages infant – 14 years

Job Duties:            Provide childcare for 1 – 1 ½ hours per week, assist with support groups, provide transportation to field trips, sort children’s donations, and distribute donations to children.

Qualifications:            Volunteers should be flexible, patient, and have experience working with children. Volunteers should be good listeners, and model appropriate behavior.

Other:            Volunteers are needed to work the following shifts:

                                                            Monday from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. @ shelter

                                                            Tuesday from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. @ Admin office

                                                            Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. @ shelter

                                                            Thursday from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. @ shelter

Job Description:            Assist Office Manager and Receptionist

Job Duties:            Perform clerical duties including data entry, filing, word processing, answering phones, and greeting guests.

Qualifications:            Volunteers should be computer literate, detail oriented, have pleasant phone voice and good phone etiquette.           

Other:            Volunteers work on “On call” basis

Data Support

Department:            BIPP Program

Max. Volunteers needed:             4

Job Description:            Responsible for providing data support including data entry, data base update, client report production.

Job Duties:            Volunteers will work with the newly developed BIPP client ACCESS data bank to provide data entry, client information updates, data interpretation, and production of data reports as requested by the program director.  Any additional time will be used to provide clerical support, i.e., updating client files, filing client information and progress notes, and any additional duties assigned by the program director. 

Qualifications:             Volunteers should have strong computer skills and be knowledgeable of MS Access and MS Word.  The work schedule is flexible and may be set during the day or evenings.

Other:            Minimum time required per week: 2 hours

Group Support

Department:            BIPP Program

Max. Volunteers needed:             4

Job Description:            Provide check-in support prior to any BIPP group.    Duties also include clerical responsibilities.  Position requires direct contact with BIPP clients and counselors.

Job Duties:            Volunteers will assist with the check-in process 30 minutes prior to the designated BIPP group.  Check-in includes reviewing group rosters; registering clients and receiving client fees; and performing associated cashiering tasks.  Any additional time will be used to provide clerical support. 

Qualifications:            Volunteers should interact well with people and be comfortable making direct contact with BIPP clients.

 Minimum time: 1 hour per group night                                                         

                                                            Maximum time: 2 hours per group night

Other:            BIPP Groups are provided on

                                                            Monday @ 6:30 p.m.

                                                            Wednesday @ 10 a.m., 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

                                                            Thursday @ 6:30 p.m.

                                                             Saturday @ 10 a.m.

 

                                                            Wednesday @ 10:00 am, 4:00 pm and 6:  30 pm

                                                            Thursday @ 6:30 pm

                                                            Saturday @ 10 am

Victim/Partner Contact

Department:            BIPP Program

Max. Volunteers needed:            2

Job Description:            Responsible for making phone calls to victim/partners and providing safety information and counseling referrals upon request.  Position requires direct telephone contact with victims/partners of BIPP clients.

Job Duties:            Volunteers will make direct phone contact with victims/partners from a designated list and review safety and counseling referral information as needed.  Volunteers will document any and all contact made and produce an end of the month report.  Any additional time will be used to provide clerical support.

Qualifications:            Volunteers should have good phone etiquette and be comfortable making direct phone contact with victims/partners of clients. Schedule is flexible and may be set during the day or evenings.

                       

Other:            Minimum time required per week: 2 hours

Communications Clerk

Department:            Community Education

Max. Volunteers needed:                        2

Job Description:            The Communications Clerk will assist the department in the compilation and maintenance of special event records, and the compilation, maintenance, and distribution of current affairs news clippings

Job Duties:            Read 4 -5 daily and weekly publications for the purpose of clipping, maintaining, and distributing pertinent news articles to staff;

                                                            Develop and maintain reading files on special events; and

                                                            Accept other communications-related assignments as needed.

Qualifications:            The Communications Clerk should have excellent organizational skills and the ability to interact with agency personnel, board members, and volunteers in a professional, intelligent manner. 

Other:            Communications Clerk must be dependable.

            Communications Clerk must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include working some week nights and weekends.

Communications Coordinator

Department:            Community Education

Max. Volunteers:            2

Job Description:            The Communications Coordinator will assist the director in the writing and coordination of the quarterly donor newsletter

Job Duties:            The Communications Coordinator will:

                                                            Attend agency special events for the purposes of compiling art and copy for the quarterly newsletter;

                                                            Write copy and headlines for newsletter and make contact with agency personnel, board members, and volunteers to gather facts for news articles;

                                                            Assist in the development and selection of photos for newsletter; and

                                                            Accept other communications-related assignments as needed

Qualifications:            The Communications Coordinator should have excellent writing skills and the ability to interact with agency personnel, board members, and volunteers in a professional, intelligent manner.

Other:            Communications Coordinator must be dependable and have access to transportation.

            Communications Coordinator must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include working some week nights and weekends.

Volunteer Training Assistant

Department:            Volunteer Program

Max. Volunteers needed:            1

Job Description:            Assist with volunteer training sessions

Job Duties:            Responsible for putting together training packets and manuals, corresponding with volunteers to schedule orientation and remind of training dates, ordering food for training sessions, and providing clerical support during training sessions. 

Qualifications:            This volunteer should be well organized, dependable, and have a flexible schedule.

Other:            Volunteer training sessions are held three times per year.  Each session is conducted over two Saturdays for a total of 10 hours, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. on each Saturday.

                       

Volunteer will need to work once a week beginning three weeks prior to training.

Job Duties:            Sort donations and prepare items for display on floor, work at cash register, assist customers.

Qualifications:            Volunteers should interact well with people and must be dependable.

Other:  Store hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Computer Technician

Job Duties:            Troubleshoot and repair computer systems

Qualifications:            Volunteers should have extensive computer training and the ability to diagnose, maintain, and trouble shoot PC hardware and software effectively.  Must be familiar with multiple computer environments.
